Logistical d00m
So, I have this "week off" before I start at MISD (on the 9th now, I obviously mistook what they said on the phone, because the formal letter very clearly said the 9th and I wrote back and said the 9th and they haven't said anything since).

This is what I have to fit in to the week somehow:

  • Man from British Gas is coming to fix the boiler some time between 12 and 6 on Tuesday.

  • hoiho arrives Tuesday night, staying at least till Thursday morning.

  • Portfolio Singers rehearsal, Tuesday 8:30-10ish pm

  • Orchestra rehearsal, Wednesday 7:30-9:30pm

  • Photo shoot (modelling thingy) on Thursday starting at 10am but no idea where (except "just outside Cambridge, easily accessible by train or car") or for how long yet.

  • Get to London to see nou and possibly others as well.

  • Take pto452 to Ian Allen in Witchford in the hope that he can get her into MOT-passable condition.

  • Take bike to Raleigh shop for fixing, because gears no longer work.

  • Read about things I ought to know for new job, try to get brain back in gear, etc.

  • Working at Oxfam Books 9am-1pm on Saturday.

  • Working at Carlton Arms 7-11:30pm on Friday, and 12-4pm on Sunday.

My head hurts. :-(

Update: I forgot to include my karate class, which I arranged for Monday 8:30-9:30 because Monday night was the only night when I didn't have anything else on & nobody was visiting.

Current Mood: furniture-chewingly stressed

That is complicated! I assume you're working both weekends at the Carlton? Come to London Sunday after working in the Carlton and head back Tuesday morning?

Re:

I just realised I missed my karate lesson off the list. That's on Monday night, 8:30-9:30. So I could possibly come to London on Sunday night and stay till Monday afternoon.

Am feeling more and more stressed about the whole thing, to be honest, though, and wondering if it would make more sense to come down to London on a weekend some time. I can almost certainly get out of Friday-pub and Saturday-Oxfam for one week if I give both enough notice (getting out of Sunday-pub is harder because Sunday lunch is really busy, so much so that they want to get another person to work then as well as me and Terri and Jethro).

I feel like I am being really useless here in all directions. :-( I shouldn't take on so many things if I can't do them all properly.

Re:

It just sounds like you're trying to fit in too much into this one week, really. In which case you'll just get stressed & won't enjoy the bits that are supposed to be fun. Much though I'd like to see you, looks like it'd probably be more sensible to ditch coming to London, & organise coming down for a weekend, a bit further in advance :-)

(it occurs to me: will you still be planning on working at the Carlton, now you have Proper Job?)

I don't know. Not for ever, certainly, but I was planning on carrying on for a while, at least until they find somebody else, because they're nice people & I'd feel guilty drinking there if I knew I'd left them in the lurch. And I do sort of enjoy doing it, and it is useful to get the extra pocket money, particularly since it is CASH. :) But I don't know if I'm going to be able to cope with a real job and the pub and Oxfam, and I don't want to give up Oxfam.

I want to do a bit of everything, really.

I would postpone London to a weekend after you've started work, and maybe also the car service too (I don't know what other things would be damaged by non-available car).

Re:

The thing is with the car, getting it serviced basically means taking at least a half-day off work (because the only person who can service it is in Witchford -- a good 30 mins' drive away -- and I suspect the amount of fixing that needs done will take at least 2 hrs) so I really wanted to get it done before I have to use up holiday on it. And the MOT is up at the end of Feb, and as it stands there's no way it will pass.

Of course, this whole plan is sort of contingent on getting the car in a state where I can drive it to Witchford at all. Hopefully with brrm's help I will be able to do that at the weekend, but if we (or rather he -- if I could've fixed it I'd've done so!) can't fix it then I'm in trouble. :-/

Big day tomorrow! Thinking of you and hoping that your first day in the new job goes really well. :-)
