I've fallen in love with Ms Call Minder.

Re: quited?

I prefer the 1471 chick. That robotic voice really does it for me.

Re: quited?

I heard an interview once with the woman who does many of the voices. She said press hash now was her favourite message as it sounded rather subversive.

Also there's a radio play, I forget who by, a British recent playwright, where a man's mother was the voice for the talking clock. She died when he was young, or else divorced his father, or something, when he was little. When he was sad he would phone up the talking clock and try to listen to her voice and to try to talk to her.

Re: quited?

The B3TA interview with the London Underground announstress is a popular link.

From three pounds you can 'buy clips of her saying 'Please press', 'Please hold', and returning to the topic of Janet's post, 'You are now fifth in the queue'.

Re: quited?

I'm really ashamed of this, but I always get Stoppard and Pinter confused. By which I mean I keep mixing them up in my head, not that I make them confused. And there's another playwright that I confuse with the both of them, but I forget his name now.

The trouble is, it's a forgiveable mistake when people think you've just got a temporary brain-wrong because of the heat or whatever, but they don't realise that I just CANNOT sort them out in my brain. Maybe because I've never really tried. It just seems easier to keep pretending each mistake is a one-off. Even if it means drinking in a different bar every night.

It always used to go "Message de-let-ed" in a faintly disappointed sort of tone, but I am convinced that they just cut the "Message" part out and slowed it down to get the latest incarnation of just "deleted" on its own.

It should be possible to cut up her phrases and rearrange them in vaguely salacious order. 'De-let-ed/to/press your/button./Again./Please./Again./Please./Again.'

I'm tempted to create an urban myth of the Call Minder Easter Egg accessible by pressing a certain sequence of numbers...
