Sorry I've been quiet on LJ for so long. As some of you already know, I've been kind of busy (and consequently staggeringly tired) making something. It's still very small, but I'm still working on it non-stop (whether I like it or not) & it should be making its debut some time around the end of March next year...

Can you guess what it is yet?Collapse )

Congratulations!

Are you *sure* it's not a badger? I think you might have recessive badger genes, you know. :-P

I was slightly disappointed at angelmine's 20ish-week scan to establish that it was definitely a baby she is having and not a puppy.

More congratulations! (And also for having a non-metaphorical oven too.)
j4 From: j4 Date: November 2nd, 2010 01:40 pm (UTC) (Link)
*giggle* Thank you! The non-metaphorical oven comes at a very welcome time, as I really wasn't sure how to go about conceiving a Christmas cake in the metaphorical one.

(Also we have A HOB! With more than one ring! So this year we won't have to resort to fish-and-chips because the one ring[*] is busy for 6 hours steaming a pudding!)

[*] one ring to boil them all...

Oh wow! Congratulations! I hope the not-just-morning-sickness continues clearing up & the rest of the pregnancy goes smoothly.

Due to my involvement in angelmine's pregnancy (she's due a couple of weeks before you) I could happily now ask ALL SORTS of questions but will refrain from blithering on :)

ps is it only pastel pink/blue knitting you are anti, or knitting in general? I like knitting baby stuff because it is SMALL and therefore QUICK & also a good way to use up small quantities of yarn. :)
j4 From: j4 Date: November 2nd, 2010 01:44 pm (UTC) (Link)
I am not anti-knitting at all (though quite anti-pastels in general), but my grandma has already knitted loads of things & will doubtless knit loads more between now & next spring... but if you want an excuse to knit small things they will nonetheless be gratefully received! No obligation though, I didn't intend to sound like I was asking people to knit things. :-}

Unfortunately my knitting skills don't extend any further than decreasing (I can't increase! it goes all lumpy! I despair!) so the only thing I can knit are rectangular things and hats. AND A KITTEN! (cf icon) because that is all just rectangles and sewing and stuffing.

Congratulations! Growing a baby is bloody exhausting (I used to sleep in the car on the way home from work and then fall asleep on the settee after dinner until Dave told me to go to bed), so rest!

Enjoy the bits of pregnancy that you can, and ignore all the old wives' tales and advice that you want - you'll get a lot.

Just so long as you weren't driving! ;)

Enjoy the bits of pregnancy that you can

Hm. To be honest I'm still baffled by the idea that I would "enjoy" any of it! I don't enjoy throwing up, feeling queasy, having constant wind/indigestion/etc, being tired, dragging an enormous weight of extra belly around with me, waking up in the middle of every night... Other than that, it's just getting on with my life but with all the above stuff slowing me down & making me less good at doing my job & less likely to enjoy socialising. I mean, I do enjoy lots of the stuff I do in my day-to-day life, but I'd enjoy it a lot more if I didn't feel ill. And of course I'm looking forward to having a child (I mean, the bit where I've got a child -- definitely not looking forward to giving birth), but the process of getting there seems much more like a necessary evil than something I could ever enjoy! No way I'm doing it again, that's for sure.

The only way I can imagine it being fun is if I really got off on the idea of weeing in a plastic cup. :-}

Gosh. Congratulations.

On the plus side, the hospital obviously don't think you're Really Stupid. A friend showed me a print of the scan-thingy of his 12-week proto-sprog and the hospital had helpfully labelled "head", "feet", "bottom" and (just in case there was any doubt) "baby". I'd just assumed this was standard practice, but obviously you passed some sort of intelligence test he didn't.

Does piracy run in either your or addedentry's family? I can see a definite Capt. Hook resemblance there...

j4 From: j4 Date: November 2nd, 2010 04:07 pm (UTC) (Link)
Heh! Never seen that sort of labelling (though they did point stuff out at the time while they were doing the scan). They did say that proto-sprog was very good at posing for photos... I reckon it was trying to get its facebook/LJ icon lined up early.

Does piracy run in either your or addedentry's family?

Um... I think he's used limewire before, does that count? 8-)

teleute From: teleute Date: November 3rd, 2010 06:07 am (UTC) (Link)

CONGRATULATIONS!

Wow! Congrats to you both!

I had stupid amounts of nausea (although no actual vomiting). Some of which was brought on by them giving me extra progesterone, we think, but I was still fairly miserable with Katie too (when I refused the extra progesterone). It is pretty common to lose weight in the first trimester because of lack of eating/throwing everything up.

Are you looking for any new ideas for helping quell the morning sickness, or have you just given up? If you are, I can dredge my memory for anything that helped me or my friends. Either way, I can sincerely sympathise. It totally sucked, and is another indication that Intelligent Design is poorly named ;-)

Re: CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you!

Nah, thanks for the offer, but it is a lot better now (not actually throwing up any more, just feeling queasy-ish) & since studies have shown that nothing really helps more than a placebo I'm not really fussed about trying more placebos! :-}

Hey - congratulations! Two years on, with a stumpy little smart-arse refusing to do what we tell him, what can I say but it's definitely worth it :)
j4 From: j4 Date: November 3rd, 2010 03:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
Thanks! :)

Also, TWO YEARS! DUDE! Good grief time flies. But I guess you don't need me to tell you that. :-} Actually I suppose if I think about it you brought a tiny baby to our wedding which was, um, nearly 2 years ago, yeah.

Also also, sorry I didn't see this comment before commenting on your journal! (LJ comment notifications in "unreliable" shocker.)

Many congrats! If things had turned out differently we'd have been due around the same time.

I'm afraid I don't know what happened, but if that means what it sounds like it means then I'm really sorry. :-(

Congratulations! It was nice to see Owen so unexpectedly, too.

(I'm assuming that it's the pastel you dislike not the knitting? Although it does depend on the item)

Oops, I'm sorry, you already answered that one. I'll go back to sleep.
