Re: Cycling while smoking or using a mobile phone

Yeah, but if the police actually gave a fuck about people cycling stupidly/illegally (or for that matter parking in cycle lanes) the world would be a very different place.

I've only ever once seen someone get stopped for cycling on the pavement, and that was when he overtook a police car by mounting the pavement to the left of it, which is really just taking the piss.

Re: Cycling while smoking or using a mobile phone

They don't seem to give that much of a fuck about people driving stupidly/illegally, either :-/

(friend of mine (on bike, on the road) was rear-ended yesterday by a taxi, who didn't stop; when she caught him up & went to remonstrate with him, there were a couple of bike cops nearby so she called them over. He zoomed off, turning right on a no-right-hand turn; which she called to their attention as well as explaining that he'd rear-ended her. They gave her a bollocking for stopping to remonstrate with the taxi near a pedestrian crossing, & did FA about the taxi.)

But agreed that, as you say, a significant proportion of people in/on whatever form of transport are just *crap*. Don't think I'd go so far as 90%, but then I am an optimist :-)

Was the police car parked in the bike lane outside a donut shop?

Re: Cycling while smoking or using a mobile phone

Most cycle lanes are non-obligatory anyway, meaning that they're more of a polite suggestion that drivers may wish to leave these areas free for cyclists. Those that are obligatory are often only in force during rush hour.

Sucks dunnit? It's why I joined the LCC (that and as a member I'm an insured cyclist, removing a common motorist gripe).

Oh, yeah, everybody knows that. (By which I mean: you don't have statistics, do you.)

I only take photos of cars parked in mandatory cycle lanes. And parked on double yellow lines. And doing other things that are actually illegal rather than just irritating.
