Open/shut case
One of the double doors dividing our department from the next one has started scuffing the carpet, leaving a big black arc across the floor. Official response to this has been to stick a large sign on the offending door, saying "PLEASE USE OTHER DOOR FOR THE TIME BEING". I don't know why this irritates me quite so much -- it can't be just that the out-of-order door is the closest to the card-swipe mechanism, can it? am I really that lazy? -- but I'm currently trying to convince myself that it would be unhelpful and pointless to stick a sign on the other door saying "PLEASE FIX OTHER DOOR".

Oh, go on. Do it.

i'd already have done it

maybe you could then have an extended conversation with the first door responding to that in turn (it's not my fault - you warped the frame!)

Surely "FOR THE TIME BEING" implies that wheels are already in motion for the fixing? And hopefully they will grind a little faster than the ones responsible for fixing out toilets (three months and counting…).

It's been there for a couple of weeks...

Also, if they wanted people not to use that half of the doors, they could bolt it. No notice required!

… except for one to tell people not to unbolt the door.

It would be fun, especially if you were to do it in the style of an anonymous ransom note with each letter in a different font.

If you do it, I'll feel better about saying "TWAT!" while walking past a whiny American girl in StarbUcks who was giving the cashier a hard time yesterday.

I am not a time being.

I am a human being, therefore I am able to use either door.

As an aside does anyone else crack up when they see the sign, 'This door is alarmed' ? I can't help imagining a door in a constant state of being startled.
Oh its probably just me then.
