That's "Art" with a "T"
And while I'm in party mood ...

I haven't been clubbing for Far Too Long. Who's up for "Pop Art" on Friday 22nd October at the Junction?

Details:
Indie/alternative/retro/pop
10pm-2:30am
£5 advance/NUS, £6 door,
18+, ID may be required
Box Office 01223511511
http://www.popartclub.com/

I would also like to go goth clubbing (like seal clubbing only more messy) some time soon, largely because it saddens me so much to see all my corsets languishing in my closet; however, I am sick of the Calling -- the music has been far too industrial-biased the last few times I've been there, and the venue is even more of a dive than I like, and that's saying something. Does Oxford still have a goth night? Or (*gulp*) is it time for me to brave the London goth scene? Okay, going to the Slimelight would cost me a valuable trump card in games of "I have never", but hey.

Slimelight's even worse than the Kambar, frankly.

Ye gods. That must take some doing.

Okay, are there any good goth nights in London, apart from B-Movie, which I've just missed for this month?

Slimelight is certainly not *good*, but it can be entertaining. Kitty & I are going this Saturday, don't know who else would be around.

Can't do this Saturday, will be in Oxford. Gah! Oxford, Cambridge and London clearly need to all be put in the same place. :)

B-Movie
Friday November 12th

You know the score ... but this time there's an added extra. Me! DJing!

Please come down!

And, indeed; Mmmm. Corsets!
j4 From: j4 Date: October 12th, 2004 07:20 am (UTC) (Link)
But but that's ages away! I want to go clubbing NOW!

I will try to come to B-Movie though, it's been good every other time I've been there. :)

Unfortunately the end-of-month gothness that was Tenebrae suffered a venue implosion, but there should be other things happening - I think that they went midweek. Sorry it's going to be so long - but do say if you come down to London!

I thought it had just relocated to St Moritz? Not that they ever send me listings, grumblegrumblegrumble.

I think that dave_exile is the man to keep an eye on ...

Slimelight was utter crap the one time I went. Oxford still has Intrusion, yes, but it's midweek. B-Movie in London was enjoyable when I went (just the once) but crowded. Synthetic Culture was rather fun; interesting (big!) venue, various floors, though only one playing music to my taste. All of these events should be Googleable.

B-Movie

[grin]

Midweek in Oxfnord is potentially do-able, particularly if I can find nice people to crash with. And it looks like Intrusion is a Tuesday night, which is one of the more plausible midweeknights for me.

B-Movie is ace, and they serve Actual Proper Beer at London pub prices rather than London club prices. But the next one is aaaaages away, and I want to dance now now now!

Oo, Synthetic Culture looks brilliant. Thank you for pointing me at that. I can't do the next one because I'm annoyingly not free this Friday, but I might try to make the one after even if it is aaaaages away. :)

I'd offer crash at mine, but it would require some means of transportation to Berinsfield after the last bus has gone.

Would be cool to see you.

second Tuesday of each month; the official Intrusion website died after people forgot to renew the domain, but there are pictures here for an idea of what it's like.

music tends to be a good mix of trad goth / general 80s / electro / industrial / all sorts (with a sense of humour), good atmosphere, friendly crowd, crap dancefloor (small stage which is easy to fall off the edge of and somewhat dangerous for tall people).

One of the problems I've been having with goth clubbing recently is all the clubs near by have far too many people I know in them, meaning I can't really spend a night just, y'know, unselfconciously dancing, and stuff.
j4 From: j4 Date: October 12th, 2004 08:59 am (UTC) (Link)
If the music's good enough I find I can ignore the other people and just dance; unfortunately, this never happens at the Calling. :-(

Slimelight's very slanted towards the industrial/EBM end of things; this is why I like it, and one of the reasons why plenty of other people hate it. They open up a tradgoth floor every month or so, so you might want to try then if at all. It's normally announced very slightly in advance on slimelight.

Ah. Probably not my thing then - thanks for the warning. Though the tradgoth thing might do the trick.

I want bouncy goth, not thumpy goth.
burkesworks From: burkesworks Date: October 12th, 2004 09:08 am (UTC) (Link)
How can you have bouncy goth? Back in the days when I lived in Leeds when it really was Gotham City, bounciness was not a quality found in abundance amongst the black-wearin' Camus-readin' snakebite-drinkin' Sisters of Mercy fans.
From: fluffymormegil Date: October 12th, 2004 09:37 am (UTC) (Link)
Consider Bauhaus' "Kick In The Eye" or Red Lorry Yellow Lorry's "Monkeys On Juice" or Rosetta Stone's "Adrenaline" or The Horatii's "Darrell And Alicia".
burkesworks From: burkesworks Date: October 12th, 2004 10:24 am (UTC) (Link)
You've got a point with "Kick In The Eye" what with its funk bassline. Thing is though with the Sisters, people like Craig Adams couldn't be funky if their lives depended on it, though you're right up to a point re fellow Leeds 6 dwellers the Lorries.

I'm tittering now 'cos 'Walking On Your Hands' is in my head.

*points at self*

And wanders off to find the black tights and black PVC skirt to go with the strappy top and BIG B00TS.

I would, but I'm already booked on the 22nd (going out for birthday drinks with people from the radio station).

Possibly, if you have critical mass nearer the time. Oxford has some good nights, not sure how good the goth one(s) are.
j4 From: j4 Date: October 12th, 2004 09:01 am (UTC) (Link)
Ooh go on then, what other good nights does Oxford have? Is PANIC still going? Is it any good these days?
beingjdc From: beingjdc Date: October 12th, 2004 09:26 am (UTC) (Link)
PANIC ended last term, but Oxford will have student nights Vertigo and Narcissists, and then there's Sabotage, Intrusion, Trashy, Transformation... I'm a bit off the ball.
lnr From: lnr Date: October 12th, 2004 12:54 pm (UTC) (Link)
I would *love* to come along. Hopefully Mike or Richard or both would join me. It's been far too long since I've been to an indie night.
