Taking refuge in nonsense
Taking me a while to get my head around being here again & being back at work. It's amazing how little time it took for the Cambridge Effect to kick in again.

People seem to want me to write more about my holiday, god knows why, but really I didn't do very much other than eat, drink, mooch around, and admire the scenery; anything I write is just going to be so much navel-gazing.

In the meantime, a daft quiz-thing stolen from minnesattva:
Go to the toy aisle of any store. All the dolls (or "action figures") come packaged with one or two "accessories." Barbie has her purse, The Hulk has a big rock, Space Ghost has little cards and a desk.

If I were to go to the toy store and buy a YOU action figure, which one or two little objects would be in your package with you?

Pet badger and some shiny shoes for me, please.

Current Mood: dissociated

A plush husky and a teeny ruby iMac.

A pint glass of water (or some simulacrum thereof) and a carry-case of CDs. Perhaps.

And now I've stolen this meme too!

A laptop and a little pot of backrub lotion.

Oh, and make that laptop visibly running DOS.
j4 From: j4 Date: September 30th, 2004 08:13 am (UTC) (Link)
I have just such a laptop. Er, actually, 3 of them. Would you like one?
rysmiel From: rysmiel Date: September 30th, 2004 08:16 am (UTC) (Link)
Come to think of it, for me it really should be an inaction figure, lounging around lazily. [ Like the Silent Bob Inaction Figure, who has a button on the back of his head that you press to make him not say anything; I think that's brilliant. ]

Neat.

I think mine should actually be a wind-up toy which has gotten turned over onto its back but is still slowly winding down, its legs trundling uselessly through the air.

Pair of headphones and a ball-and-stick model of some random perovskite.
triskellian From: triskellian Date: September 30th, 2004 09:18 am (UTC) (Link)
My action figure has an iBook and a triskell necklace.

(Now, should I use my iBook icon or my triskell icon? Decisions, decisions...)

secretrebel was muttering about buying me and smiorgan "action figures of ourselves" as presents: Smallville!Lex for him (he's bald) and Laptop!Willow for me ;-)

Cute quiz, stealing it...

A crossword and a pencil.

A crossword and a pen. I live dangerously, me.

Actually, a remote control and something would probably be more like it.

They say Confucius does his crossword with a pen.

A crossword and a pen. I live dangerously, me.

Ah, but that *really* doesn't work with things like The Listener and Enigmatic Variations, where there's a gimmick. Ususally it's something along the lines of finding the misprinted letter in the definition of each clue and then following the instruction (given by reading the correct letters in clue order) to resolve clashes between across and down clues. :-)

In fact the item in my right hand in my user icon is a pencil, and if you could see the full picture you would see a table with an Enigmatic Variations crossword on it in front of me!

A book and a bag of sewing/knitting, assuming that a smallclanger doll is available separately and doesn't need to be packaged with me.

He could have a Peekablock and a spoon.

Cambridge Effect?
j4 From: j4 Date: September 30th, 2004 10:41 am (UTC) (Link)
It's like S.A.D. -- only I get landscape affective disorder. Cambridge is flat, flat, flat, flat, FLAT; this really gets me down in a totally irrational emotional way.
rysmiel From: rysmiel Date: September 30th, 2004 11:52 am (UTC) (Link)
You're not the only person to whom that happens: it also used to happen to papersky when she visited me in Cambridge, though it's a register in which I'm pretty neutral myself.

Easy. A little baby TiBook and an equally little grey cat with a bushy tail, who makes a loud noise when you squeeze her.

Have got your Dreamweaver MX btw but having problems getting it to run....

- There are radishes and turnips.
- Are there no carrots?
- No. Anyway you overdo it with your carrots.
